On the beauty of things

Research
At the very beginning of our research, we classified the different mold we wanted to use for the film. We tried to use them with different shapes and colors. Then, we created some environments to see if we could modify the color depending on the placement of the molds. We even did some research on the movement it could have. But we realized that we preferred to keep the molds in their true color to maintain the authentic and true side of the mold and to be as realistic as possible.

Then we started introducing Shim into the scenery and Landscapes. He had to be present, but the mold had to remain the main character. Shim also had to have colors that weren't too saturated so he could blend into the scenery like a chameleon.

When all the initial research was done, we had to focus on the first garden and the jungle. We needed two gardens with some mold in common but still very different in terms of color, contrast and shape.

So we created two color palette to help us get a preview of the colors first.
Then we created two concept art pieces.
A first garden with very vivid, saturated and bright colors but be careful not to be too bright because this garden is in the fridge, so we have to keep that side a little dark.
For the jungle, it's more in lerns of feeling because Shim is angry and determined when he makes the jungle, so we wanted to have a darker, sadder side. But he keeps his artistic side when he shapes the jungle.

The first garden wasn't easy to create because it had to be an English-style garden with mold, and it was difficult to visualize because, oddly enough, it doesn't hesitate. We visited the Jardin des plantes in Montpellier to get an idea for the composition.
And we had a good discussion with Denis to guide us as effectively as possible in the composition of our plans.

Concept art
When we managed to determine the brightness of our plans, we started doing some concept art of the first garden and then the rest came very easily.

Photo bashing
To make our film as realistic as possible in our shots, we did some photo bashing. This really helped us understand and visualize what our film could be like. And to really understand this macro effect. We also saw lots of reports on mold abd it really helped us find very interesting macro shots for our film and interpret them in photo bashing.

It wasn't easy because we never did much photo bashing but with our determination, we were able to produce some very satisfying work.
